Tod Brilliant / new show and Pola-fiction

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

If you enjoy beautiful Polaroid photography and great fiction then Tod is your man. Check out his writings at Pola-fiction where he creates a story around a photo. His photography can be found at juneten.com.todd-brilliant-1.jpg
Tod has a new show coming up May 9th at the Micro Gallery inside the Ray Modern Design Studio in Santa Rosa, CA. Todd will be displaying and selling his enlarged, high quality, limited giclee prints. This looks like it will be an amazing show.

This is from Tod: “As you may know, Polaroid has abandoned film production. Accordingly, this is the end of a vital photographic era, one that was championed by such luminaries as Warhol, Maplethorpe, Ansel Adams, Chuck Close, Lou Noble, Tarkovsky, Bravo, Mollino, Kim vanGroos, Walker Evans, Jim Lucio, Drew Baker, Bryan Cowe, Wegman, and Annie Liebowitz.

I really hope you can join me on May 9 at the Micro Gallery inside the Ray Modern Design Studio in Santa Rosa, CA as we gather to say farewell to an era. This won’t be my last exhibition, as I’ve a stockpile of film that will last me a year or more, but it will be something of a wake. So bring your Polaroid camera, if you have one, and we’ll sip a cocktail or rootbeer together and commiserate. “

Coming down to the last days of the show and I realized that I never promoted the books that I made for the exhibition. There are still some available from the edition of 20, you can go over to Open Space Gallery and buy them at the online store.

I had a good time making them and included some of all my favorite photographs from all the various styles.

Tonight, somewhere in Dumbo Brooklyn. Three artists will create a mosaic narrative out of Polaroid pictures with the audience playing the characters in the story. Unfortunately I am not involved with this but I will surely be swinging by to see what happens. Stay tuned to LVHRD, looks like the have lots of good things cooking up!

Check out the video.

2 videos that use Polaroid

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

I am not sure what the idea is behind this one (maybe that instant film grows on trees in Berlin) but it is visually interesting and the addition of the snapshots, which are beautiful in and of themselves, and sx-70 is great!

Adidas Original, “Handbags for Feet.”

Beautiful song, the video gets a bit distracting but amazing still. I wish they tried to push the Polaroid stop motion idea a bit furhter and used some composites with stop motion animation in them, or even pushed the picture in picture theme.
